The Smoky Caipirinhas

The Smoky Caipirinhas (“Ky-peer-een-yas”) formed in Manhattan in the summer of 2021. The duo blends the disparate musicality of a Brazilian percussionist and a British-American singer/pianist. Imagine Brazil’s piquant signature cocktail tinged with the smoky flavors of yesteryear’s jazz, and you get the mood… seamless vocals and harmonies punctuated by playful and imaginative percussion. TSC brings reinterpretations of bossa nova classics, and American standards with a vaudeville flair. Add a dash of the international songbook, and the mixology is complete!
Alex Fredrick is a versatile and engaging singing pianist who has performed in the US, UK, Europe, Japan, Mexico, the Caribbean, and on international cruise ships. Alex performs weekly at the legendary Don’t Tell Mama Piano Bar in New York City’s Theatre District.
A charismatic percussionist (washboard/cajon/spoons/tambourine) Leo Guerra has played with traditional jazz, blues, Brazilian jazz and bossa bands/artists in Brazil and the US. A former member of the renowned Mississippi Devils, Leo is featured as both composer and performer on their album, recorded in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
TSC performed at Rockwood Music Hall in September 2022 to a sold-out house. Recent appearances also include: Judge Renato Zupo’s Book Launch, Bridgeport, CT; Chelsea Manna Gallery, New York City; Le Baratin French Bistro, Greenwich Village; Freddy’s Bar & Backroom, Brooklyn; and The Local, Astoria. Private events in Huntingdon Valley, PA; Avalon, NJ; and elsewhere in the Tri-state area.
