The Alphabeticians
Self made millionaires seeking out vigilante justice from a cave? No. Huge, terrifying, reptilian beasts from an ancient time? No. Space travelers from the other side of the universe trapped here because there ship ran out of fuel? Maybe, but no. Then who, or more precisely, what are The Alphabeticians? They are two (or 3, 4 or 5!) guys who love playing quirky, funny, upbeat songs for kids and families. Think They Might Be Giants meets Talking Heads meets Dr. Seuss. Or something like that.
Kindie Rock is sweeping the nation, and The Alphabeticians are poised to help bring it to Portland. Kindie Rock (think “kid” plus “indie”) is music that is fun for kids and their parents to listen to. Anyone with kids knows there's plenty of kid's music that seems designed to torment the parents. That's what inspired Mr. Hoo (Jeff Inlay) and Mr. E (Eric Levine), two local dads, to start The Alphabeticians. Both veterans of the local music scene (Inlay was the guitar player for popular local 90s band, Hummingfish. Levine has performed with The Willies, Danny & the Originals and Fuzzball), they grew frustrated with much of the music that was available for their children, and decided to take matters into their own hands. They have been performing around the Pacific Northwest to growing audiences and acclaim since 2010 as a duo (two guitars, two vocals), and now as a trio (add bass), quartet (add drums) and quintet (add keyboard/trumpet).
