Me and Martha
Martha Hills and Don DePoy are international touring musicians performing about 200 concerts a year. They are members of America's Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame and on the Artist Rosters of the Virginia Arts Commission and Arts for Learning (preK-12) as Traditional Artists. Currently they produce and host Mountain Music, a half-hour television series reaching 1.4 million households weekly (64shows in rotation). Don is a fifth-generation traditional music maker and hold a PhD specializing in the Cultural Context of Bluegrass Music. Martha is an Early Childhood educator.
Performing together since 2004 as Me & Martha, they have earned a solid international reputation as traditional Appalachian musicians. For the second year in a row Me & Martha was awarded 2022 and 2023 Top Live Wedding Band by Virginia Living Magazine. From concert halls to street busking, they captivate audiences with spontaneous and often amusing banter, backed up by amazing vocal and instrumental virtuosity.
Martha and Don often share a stable of instruments including a rare scheitholt with origins dating back to the late 1500s, and demonstrate with music and song the Mountain Dulcimer, Fiddle, Banjo, Autoharp, Guitar, DoBro, Mandolin, and Bass Fiddle.
In 2009 they organized and continue the Shenandoah Music Trail, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation to bring musicians and audiences together.
