Loose Change
Based in Vashon WA
Loose Change is without a doubt the most exciting cover band to hit the Puget Sound dance scene in recent memory. Inspired by the big R&B soul sound of the 60's—and the classic movie The Commitments— this band aims to entertain with non-stop danceable tunes and a commanding stage presence.
The band's leader and powerful front man Troy Kindred is an entertainer in every sense of the word. His infectious energy and enthusiasm gets the crowd into the act—and his vocals will tear the paint off the back walls.
Kindred is backed by a tight seven-piece band that includes the big organ sound of keyboards, an inspired lead guitar, solid bass and drums, and a dynamic three-piece horn section. The sheer size of Loose Change makes for a big sound and a great on-stage look.
Lead singer Troy Kindred has been belting out tunes since his mama first dragged him to church back in the Heartland. His commanding vocals range from a growly Joe-Cocker-meets-James Brown style to smooth Sinatra-eque crooning. Throughout his career, Kindred has performed with numerous bands and stage productions, most recently revisiting his gospel roots by singing with Seattle's Total Experience Gospel Choir. He gets the crowd onto the dance floor and into the act with songs like Unchain My Heart, Midnight Hour, and Mustang Sally.
Ultra talented keyboardist and musical director Kevin Pottinger comes from a varied and extensive musical and theater background. He can play anything from rockabilly to country to jazz, but he's in his element when fooling his keyboard into thinking it's a Hammond B3. His vocals add versatility to the band, whether he's getting the house rockin' on Treat Her Right or slowing the pace with Tupelo Honey.
The band also features a red-hot rhythm section—guitar, bass and drums—and of course, the horns.
The huge sound of the horn section is what sets Loose Change apart from other dance bands, especially on powerful songs like Vehicle. The talented players bring all their horns to the party, from soprano to bari saxes, to trumpets, trombones, and the occasional flute.
And let's not forget the 3 chick singers. Not only can these ladies sing, they've got the moves. Meri Michael Collins, Lori Means and Adrienne Mildon are without a doubt the Solid Gold dancers of the band.
When Loose Change takes the stage, you know you're gonna have a good time dancing, listening, and singing along with your favorite old R&B tunes all night long.
