Judy Bady
Judy Bady is a powerhouse vocalist whose music repertoire spans the breadth of jazz, blues, gospel and contemporary American pop. A native of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Judy grew up surrounded by music, listening and singing along to the Southern gospel music of her neighborhood church, as well as Motown, blues and rock and roll. Judy has appeared on television several times and in 1993, Judy appeared Off-Broadway in the world premiere of the blues opera, "Ghosts: Live From Galilee," at internationally known La Mama Experimental Theater Company, in New York. She received rave reviews in the New York Times, Theater Week, The Village Voice and The New York Post. In 1994, Judy appeared at the JVC Jazz Festival Piano Spectacular and Picnic at the famed Waterloo Village in Stanhope, New Jersey. George Kanzler of The Star Ledger said, "Bady has a contralto voice suggestive of both Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan in its rich, resonant tone." Judy is also a poet and has also had one of her poems on the late jazz vocalist Carmen McRae published in the March, 1995 issue of Jazz Times. Judy has also appeared with tenor saxophonist/composer/educator Billy Harper, who said, "That Judy Bady!!. Makes one's heart swing!!. Makes one want to sing!!"
